Preschool Schedule and Curriculum
Social-Emotional Learning is a focus throughout the entire day in preschool. MELC follows the Conscious Discipline framework, a trauma-informed, social-emotional learning program built upon a foundation of safety, connection, and problem-solving. Other curriculum supports include Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum, Engage New York, Read It Again, and Learning without Tears.
A sample day gives an idea of what core areas are included in a day at the Muskie Early Learning Center. Depending on the school and teacher, your child’s schedule may be designed differently.
Typical Full Day (8:10-2:15):
- Morning Meeting (20 minutes)
- Literacy (60 minutes)
- Math (45 minutes)
- Snack (15 minutes)
- Recess (60 minutes)
- Lunch (30 minutes)
- Centers (60 minutes)
- Quiet Time (20-30 minutes)
Typical 1/2 Day (8:10-10:55; 11:35-2:15):
- Morning Meeting (20 minutes)
- Literacy (30 minutes)
- Math (30 minutes)
- Snack (15 minutes)
- Recess (20 minutes)
- Centers (30 minutes)
